Wellness is all about maintaining balance in our mind, body & spirit. Here are some simple tips for maintaining your optimum wellness through menopause. It is important to nurture yourself through this period in your life.
BEAUTY SLEEP
Research has shown that women entering menopause need as much sleep as they did during puberty, and ironically then is when it becomes difficult to sleep. It is best to go to sleep while it’s still Yin time (ideally 10 pm) and wake up with sunrise (Yang time). Come up with a relaxing bedtime ritual. I like brushing my hair, applying scented oil, and reading a bit of a favorite book. Think of your bedroom as a sanctuary from the outside world where you can relax deeply.MOVE YOUR BODY
Stay active. Not only will you feel better but it is so important for your health. Do something active every day for at least 30 minutes.

CREATIVE INSPIRATION
This is a period when most women have a little more time since their children are older and more independent. It is a great time to pick up a new hobby or restart something you used to love but set aside for your children. Think of this time as a new beginning and find a way to express your creativity through the arts, service to others, going back to school, music, a physical activity, or anything you are passionate about. If you can’t think of anything it’s time to try different things. Talk to other women and find out what they are doing in their spare time.
ACUPUNCTURE & HERBS
Through regular acupuncture treatments you can help some of the symptoms of menopause and aging and feel better right away! Acupuncture helps restore balance and make you “feel like yourself” again. Herbal remedies can be designed to alleviate some of the annoying symptoms of menopause and support healthy aging.
HYDRATE
As women age we tend to build up heat inside our bodies (responsible for the infamous night sweats), and heat leads to dryness (infamous vaginal dryness). It’s important to hydrate well even though you may not feel thirsty. Good sources are filtered water, coconut water, and melon juice. Chia seeds are also very hydrating.
“LET FOOD BE THY MEDICINE” (HIPPOCRATES)
Fill your body with living energy from nature’s foods. Base your diet around organic, fresh vegetables and fruits, high quality proteins, and non-GMO, organic whole grains. If you eat fish make sure it is wild, not farmed. If you eat meat, it should be organic. If you are trying to lose weight, strictly limit carbohydrates. Your plate should be a colorful bouquet of beautiful food that is as fresh as possible. Ask for my list of special foods for this time of life.

MEDITATION
If you don’t meditate daily, now is the time to start! It is amazing how just 5-10 minutes a day can change your life. Meditation calms the sympathetic nervous system and activates neurotransmitters that make us feel better and able to deal with the world around us.
